Recently while working in my lab I wanted to force the address book to update with the Lync 2013 client.
This is a fairly straight forward process as all you have to do is import a registry key (or wait randomized time between 1-60 mins which is the default).
The Global Address Book (GAL) is a directory of available contact information for CUMC, NYPH and Columbia University faculty, staff and students.
It can be accessed when using a CUMC email (@cumc.columbia.edu) account with Outlook or when logged in to the Outlook Web App.
Adding a registry entry like this eliminates any delay in the refresh.
Update-Cs User Database is a Power Shell cmdlet for updating Lync’s user database.
Last week we outlined a problem – trying to standardize Lync contact photos using photos uploaded in AD.
This situation however is extremely rare since the default maintenance time on Exchange is at AM and updates and downloads are usually performed during working hours.Even though Outlook is the last in the chain, it is often the first level where the troubleshooting takes place as usually this is where the request is coming from. And since this website’s main focus is on Outlook, it makes sense to start with Outlook as well ;-).The command for the manual update procedure can be found here: Outlook will automatically download updates only unless the size of the changes is larger than 12.5% (one-eighth) of the total OAB size.In that case the whole OAB is being downloaded again.
